Guanlong - Tyrannosaurs exhibition - National Museum of Scotland - Edinburgh

Guanlong. The earliest-known Tyrannosauroid (Tyrannosaurus-like) dinosaur. From the late Jurassic (~159-154 million years ago). English translation of Guanlong is 'crown dragon' with regard to the bony but weak air-filled crest that topped its skull - likely used for display rather than combat. It was only ~ 3m long. And is thought to have been feathered. Photographed at the Tyrannosaurs exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh.
