Dunvegan Castle

Dunvegan Castle has a relatively modern look for a castle, with a solid and square architecture. Its design is less about defence and more about being seen to be formidable. This image is taken from the loch-side (of Loch Dunvegan), from where the true imposing scale of the castle is visible. The origin of the castle lies with the Clan MacLeod in the 13th Century. It houses the Fairy Flag, 'Am Bratach Sith' in Gaelic, a threadbare piece of 14th Century silk that, legend has it, would bring victory to the MacLeod clan in battle. Dunvegan Castle remains the seat and home of the chiefs of the Clan MacLeod.
